61 Hardy anglers brave the elements

This year’s competition was fished in very difficult conditions (yet again) with a very strong southerly wind gusting gale force driving a big surf onshore. Coupled with a very big tide anglers were forced well up the beach. Frequent heavy rain showers soaking everything. Fortunately the ambient temperature was very mild for January otherwise things would have been very nasty. The long predicted heavy conditions put many anglers off entering and competing on the day with only strong casters managing to fish properly, 61 hardy anglers fished in the end. Fish were hard to catch in the conditions particularly in the shallower areas more prone to heavy turbulence within casting range.
